Which Energy Improvements Are Included?
The scheme aims to provide UK homes with the latest energy-efficient heating measures, upgrading outdated heating and insulation systems with modern, eco-friendly alternatives. Depending on your home and circumstances, improvements include:
Insulation: The ECO4 scheme takes a fabric-first approach, focusing on enhancing the building itself before installing any new heating systems. This applies to all homes with an EPC lower than D. The grant covers the cost of cavity wall or internal wall insulation, as well as loft or roof insulation.
Green Heating Systems: The Government encourages homeowners to switch out existing coal-fuelled heating with greener alternatives, so the grant will cover the cost of replacing old boilers with heat pumps.
Repairing Boilers: If your current heating system is still in full working order and within its expected lifespan, the ECO4 scheme prioritises repairs over full replacements. However, eligible applicants may get an A-rated non-condensing boiler if it improves the overall energy efficiency of the home.

To be approved for an ECO4 grant, the property must have an EPC rating of D or lower and meet the following criteria:

- Health-related illnesses
- You receive any of the following income-related benefits
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment & Support Allowance
